Dive Guide — SSI (recreational level)
The SSI Dive Guide programme is the first step towards a truly rewarding experience: sharing your passion by guiding other divers underwater.
Please note: this is a recreational-level certification. It allows you to guide certified friends and fellow divers, but does not permit paid or professional guiding.
Requirements:
- Minimum age: 15 years old (written parental or legal guardian consent is mandatory for anyone under 18)
- A medical certificate of fitness to dive (issued within the last year)
- At least 40 logged dives totalling a minimum of 25 hours to begin the programme
- Own a complete set of personal diving equipment
- The following certifications are required:
- Diver Stress & Rescue (or equivalent from a recognised agency)
- React Right or a first aid certificate including oxygen administration and AED, issued within the last 2 years
- Deep Diving (or equivalent from a recognised agency)
- Navigation (or equivalent from a recognised agency)
- Night & Limited Visibility (or equivalent from a recognised agency)
Certification Requirements:
- Complete 50 dives and 32 hours of diving to obtain the SSI Dive Guide certification
- Approximately 45 hours of theory sessions and practical evaluations
- SSI Dive Guide digital certification card
Duration: approx. 15 days
Many other specialties are available on request, including: Boat Diving / Wreck Diving / Computer Diving / Nitrox / Marine Ecology and other environmental specialties. SSI will recognise your growing skills and experience by awarding the following digital recognition cards:
- Speciality Diver SSI (12 logged dives and 2 specialties)
- Advanced Speciality Diver SSI (24 logged dives and 4 specialties)
- Master Diver SSI (50 logged dives and 5 specialties, including Diver Stress & Rescue)
